Kaitlin and Matt’s story –

Matt and I met our freshman year of college at Virginia Tech.  Our nearly eight-year relationship has spanned several states and some long distance time. Matt moved to the south in 2009, and I finally followed in early 2011. We instantly fell in love with New Orleans. The spirit of the city is magnetic, and we are lucky to call it home.

Our local group of friends celebrates the holidays each year with an annual “Hotel Bar Crawl.” That year, we started at the Roosevelt, my favorite. As we took turns going through couple’s pictures, Matt dropped to one knee and proposed. He had a horse and carriage waiting outside to take us around the French Quarter. We spent the rest of the night partying at one of our favorite bars, The District, with all of our friends.

When we started planning the wedding, we really had one requirement – make it as New Orleans as possible. Since we knew most of our guests would be from out of town, we wanted them to experience as much of the city as they could in the weekend. St. Louis Cathedral essentially chose our date of March 7, 2015. We chose The Chicory for our reception because of its rustic beauty and charm. The exposed brick walls and gas lanterns stole our hearts immediately.

I went with a blush, ivory, black and gold color scheme. I wanted everything to be soft and romantic. We really wanted to make this day about more than Matt and I coming together, but as two families joining. We decided to end the night with a second line to The District, bringing our engagement night back in full circle. We had handkerchiefs made for our guests to wave and also passed out gold beads and hot beignets!
